What 18,774 Indian Student Searches Say About AI, Internships and Placements

We logged every search that reached TaskVeda between April and October 2026. This is what Indian students are actually typing — and, more usefully, which topics earn a click and which get ignored.

Journalists, creators and researchers: you are welcome to quote the numbers and tables below with a link back to this page. Please attribute to TaskVeda and cite the data window. One caveat we ask you to keep: impressions are not people. A single student searching four related terms is counted four times.

The headline finding

One query — "placement preparation" — produced 2,789 impressions in six months. That single phrase is 15% of all non-brand demand reaching this site.

It delivered 24 clicks. A click-through rate of 0.86%.

Compare that with "free prompt": 169 impressions, 36 clicks, a click-through of 21%. Same site, same visitor, same six months. A student searching for a free AI prompt clicks a result; a student searching for placement help usually does not.

That gap is the most useful thing in this report, and it is not about SEO mechanics. It is about intent. Someone looking for a prompt is collecting an artefact. Someone looking for placement help is anxious, sceptical, and comparing five tabs before trusting any of them — including ours.

Search demand by theme

All non-branded queries, grouped by what the student was trying to do:

ThemeQueriesImpressionsClicksClicks per 1,000 impr.

Careers & skills4223300.0

Two themes convert well above average — AI prompts (98.2 clicks per thousand) and internships (49.9). Two earn essentially nothing despite real volume: placements at 7.9, and careers/skills and resume at zero.

Four things this data shows

1. Certification searches are demand without supply

"ai certifications", "best ai certification" and "best ai certifications" together drew 348 impressions and zero clicks. The interest is demonstrably there. What is missing is a page that answers it directly — a ranked, honest comparison of which AI certifications are actually worth the money in India, including the ones that are not worth it.

2. "Free" plus "with certificate" is the strongest combination we found

"free internship with certificate" returned a 6.8% click-through and "free internship certificate" returned 8.5%, several times the site average of 3.4%. Students trust the combination of free and verifiable in a way that neither word achieves alone. It is the clearest intent signal in this dataset.

3. Nobody is searching for "student rated ai"

That query drew 131 impressions and zero clicks. It is an odd phrase, and it is not how students describe what they want. Understanding that phrasing is not as valuable as it looks — a lesson in not optimising for a query just because it has volume.

4. Placement help is a trust problem, not a keyword problem

Placement queries convert at 7.9 clicks per thousand while prompt queries convert at 98.2. The keyword is already right. What is missing is the reason to believe: a specific, checkable claim — a named cohort, a real number, an identifiable student. Generic "complete guide" content loses this comparison every time, and no amount of keyword work will fix it.

Methodology, and what this data cannot tell you

Every figure comes from TaskVeda's own Google Search Console account, covering queries that reached this domain between 4 April and 2 October 2026. Branded queries were excluded from all demand and conversion figures so the numbers reflect non-brand discovery. Conversion is expressed as clicks per 1,000 impressions to make themes comparable at different volumes. Only aggregate query strings were analysed — no personal data, no identifiers.

Three honest limitations. First, this is one site's traffic, not the Indian student population; it reflects high-intent searchers who reached us, not a representative sample. Second, impressions are not unique people — one student running four related searches counts four times, so volume is over-counted at the individual level. Third, this measures what reaches a single small domain in a single niche; it indicates where demand sits, not the size of the national market.
